march madness

March
madness is continuing to roar. What is most interesting to me is how
some team that the experts rated lower and many thought did not have
a chance to win come out a winner. March madness is living proof
that there are surprising moments in every area of life. In fact it
is this surprising element that makes March madness such a fun time
of the year.

In
just a few days the Christian church celebrates the biggest surprise
of all time. Who would have believed that a person put in a grave
would not only leave the grave but leave it alive and well? In the
past few months I have seem loved ones called to their eternal home.
So, I am very thankful for the One who arose. Because He lives I am
assured of eternal life, too. What a great time is the Easter
season. Yeah!!!!!

being busy

I
have had a couple of days of being really busy. Two funerals have
taken some extra hours and then I was on a committee to interview
candidates for a position at the Church. This has caused me to work
several extra hours. I enjoy being busy but I do not enjoy being too
busy.

At
such times there is a temptation to ignore my spiritual life. And
yet I know that it is at times like these I need to spend more time
with God. Without spending time alone with God my life tends to get
out of control. By that I mean ‘things’ seem to get to me more
easily and I lose my perspective. I think my life will slow down in
a couple of days and I am looking forward to that happening but
perhaps I need to live each day with more an eye on the Eternal. It
would appear that I do not need to slow down as much as give God more
room in my life at all times.

being alone this week

This
week I am home alone. Phyllis, my spouse, is gone to be a part of a
mission experience in Indiana. She is cooking and helping my son and
daughter in law who are a part of a group that are doing a mission
week in their home town. They are learning and working among the
‘locals’ who have found themselves in need. I write all of this to
let you, the reader, know I am alone and in some ways very glad to be
alone. I am going to use this time to pray for this group as they
show God’s love to others.

Being
alone not only will allow me to pray but to once again learn how much
my spouse means to me. It has been written that absence makes the
heart grow fonder. From many past experiences I know the truth of
that statement and will find the truth of it again this week.

life is a gift

I
thought I had my day planned out. I was feeling good about
everything and then I got a facebook message. My cousin told me
about her sister’s daughter who they found dead at 44 years of age.
What makes this story even more tragic is that a few years ago this
family lost their other daughter at a young age too. So, now I have
a cousin who had two children and has seen both of them pass away at
young ages. I cannot imagine the pain. Your children born and died
before you very eyes.

Life
does not always go the way we plan. Today I am asking God to be with
my cousin and her family. I am also going to do what I can do to
help but I know the pain will not only be with them for a long time
but in many ways always there. Today celebrate life with me. It is
short and it is a gift.
