Reading through facebook today I learned that a person I have known for years has passed away.  He was a minister that lived by me for five years.  We spent many hours sharing about our lives.  He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.  As I read about his passing my heart ached for his family and for my own loss.  Death is never an easy pill to swallow.  But it does come knocking on all of our doors from time to time.

This unexpected news not only brought sympathy out in me but it also managed to bring out a new appreciation for life.  Today I am more thankful to be among the living and I am also thankful for my family and friends who are still alive and well.  I guess you could say that seeing my friend’s death notice was a wake up call for me to live life to the fullest.  I only have one to live.

Yesterday
we had a special musical group do the worship service. What was
amazing was how God was in the place. The words of the songs spoke
and the words spoken were very touching. But what spoke most to me
was the sincerity of those musicians. They were the ‘real deal.’
They were humble and truly committed to making a difference in the
world for Christ.

I
sometimes think we are so concerned about our talk and how ‘things’
look we forget that what is inside of us is the most important. We
need to all be followers of Jesus who are the ‘real deal.’ I am
reading a book where the author is making a strong case that the
ordinary of life is what really counts. So this week I am going to
spend some time with my spouse and let God draw us closer to each
other. After all our families and created by God and blessed by God.
This week look for God is the ordinary and be the real deal in that
part of your life.

all ministers

So
often we think of God’s work as something that must somehow be
religious and sounds pious. But all of our actions and doing are in
a real sense God’s working. It seems to me that when may think of
ministry they think of the professional clergy and forget that all
Christians are priests. How we treat others is a part of the mission
and how we are in our day to day lives is ministry.

I
am constantly challenged to live my faith daily. Many times I fail
and yet God helps me to continue to march on and keep trying.
Wherever you are and whatever you are doing today, remember it is all
for the glory of God. Nothing is unimportant or should be
overlooked. May we all once again discover the truth that all of our
lives are a gift from God and what we do with them is our gift to
Him.
